As it cooks and I welcome you here!
Here are a few caramelized bits and pieces about me.
My current home?
America. Situated along the tranquil Historic Route 66 in the Great Plains, home is where comfort food is queen. You’ll discover friendly diners and restaurants along the Mother Road that serves all kinds of steaks, generous portions of southern cuisine, TexMex, soul food, pie and pancake houses, and smokey bbq shacks. Chinese buffet? Yep. You’ll find them anywhere — even in the middle of nowhere on the Alaskan Highway.
My country of origin?
Malaysia: Serious Eats was right. The “richness of its food culture” coupled with “cross cuisine mashups” are like none other. It’s a foodies’ Disneyland. For newbies, it’s a food Discoveryland. Either way, it’s food lovers’ haven that never sleeps.
A vibrant melting pot of cultures?
A colorful salad bowl that mirrors Asia?
It just depends on how you see it, and most of all, what you are hungry for. Chillies are doused on anything or served with everything for you to experience anywhere from a bite, a subtle burn, or a good kick. The small serving portions are just enough to give you that high. Wrap it up with a hot or on-the-rocks Ipoh White Coffee; then, keep looking for more good eats. Follow up with frothy ‘pulled’ tea. It doesn’t matter if you prefer to do it the other way round.
My favorite eats?
Love anything homemade. Gotta have chillies — lotsa chillies! Enjoy sampling food, traveling, and replicating recipes. Gimme a bahn mi; I’m all bubbly. Have dim sum will travel. Koi Palace, Daly City, California, is king!
Favorite comfort food? Fried rice. Spinach, tomatoes, and egg soup with garlic and ginger. If I’m under the weather, it’s tiger mom’s-style chicken soup. Cold cloudy weather? Of course, tiger mom’s style chicken curry with potatoes. And finally, to wash it and down? Spiced ginger tea – oh so florally good!
My latest obsession?
Thai bubble tea at Tank Noodles, Chicago. Would those chewy black-n-beautiful bubbles taste good in my green juice?
My latest discovery?
Frozen Hawaiian mochi. They come in many different, delicious flavors except durian. Mmm… love durian.
By the way, did you know that the Great Plains has one of the most beautiful skies in the world? Living in the Great Plains never cease to inspire me every day. Hence, I look for themes and name my recipes after the land, the landmarks, and of course, Mother Nature. It’s as simple as that.
